Greece and Turkey!
Join St. Mark's on a journey through Greece and Turkey, following the footsteps of Paul in the early church. See the information below if you're interested in joining us on this 12-day journey!
Let's go to Greece and Turkey!
Following our successful trips to both the Holy Land (2022) and Germany (2025), there is momentum for another educational journey. This time, we're taking a trip to Greece and Turkey to study in the footsteps of Paul. Our trip will take place April 4-15, 2027.
Why Paul?
Paul is one of the most influential voices in the New Testament canon and his fingerprint upon Christian theology and doctrine is immense. Paul either started or visited many of the early church communities and placing his prolific writing into context is essential to better understanding his theology.
Trip Outline
Our trip begins in Northern Greece following in the footsteps of Paul and Silas to Philippi. We'll visit the baptismal site of Lydia, stop in Neapolis, and see the famous aqueducts. We'll travel south to Meteora ("in the heavens above"), and visit the breathtaking Byzantine monasteries in the sky.
On our way to Athens we'll stop in Delphi, the religious center of the ancient Greek world and see the Omphalos stone. Gain a new appreciation for the tremendous spiritual opposition the Apostle Paul faced in preaching the Gospel of Christ.
From the Athens we'll embark a ship to sail across the Aegean Sea. We'll visit the world-famous Greek island of Mykonos, Crete, and Santorini. In between, we'll visit the ancient city of Ephesus and the infamous Library of Celsus.
Once back in Greece, we'll tour the rich architectural splendor of Athens, including the world-renowned Acropolis, the Propylaea, the Parthenon, and the Erechtheum. We'll gather on Mars Hill to engage Paul's Areopagus speech. On our penultimate day, we'll visit the city of Corinth and explore the simple beauty of Paul's words in context.
Our final day of the trip is a full free day in Athens.
In preparation for this trip, we'll study Paul's life and work, especially his letters within the New Testament.
